The Cosmelan Peel is corrective and preventative as it inhibits the enzyme responsible for melanin production, Tyrosinase. By controlling the production of melanin, the dark spots will soon recede.
After the application of the peel at our facility, we will advise you to keep it on for another 8-12 hours, this time period will depend on your skin. At home you are expected to wash it off after the prescribed time period with a gentle cleanser. Your depigmentation journey does not end there, as certain Cosmelan products will be given to you to maintain the results of the peel and to prevent any further unwanted pigmentation
You may encounter some tightness, itching and redness right after the treatment, but this will soon recede. As a part of your aftercare, products will be provided to soothe the skin. You will also notice some peeling and flaking of the skin for a few days after the application, it is a sign that the treatment is working.
It is important to protect your skin from the sun after the treatment especially in the first 14 days, so we advise you to wear a lightweight sunscreen with SPF 30 daily. Makeup is discouraged right after the treatment, as your skin is delicate and healing. Any other pointers will be provided by the aesthetician after the treatment.
Within a week, you will notice the brightening of the skin and a more even-toned complexion. Within 4-5 weeks blemishes and spots have significantly reduced. With proper aftercare, the results of the treatment can last several months.
